Sustainable Construction.

Does it always have to be expensive?

Sustainable construction is often considered expensive. But is that reality or just prejudice?

At CHRISTMANN + PFEIFER, we encounter this question regularly. We cannot answer it easily Because yes, highly modern solutions - for example, passive house standards, complex building services, or the use of CO2-optimized materials - can increase construction costs. But that is only one part of the truth.

Simple but effective: smart solutions instead of high-tech overload

Sustainable construction does not necessarily have to be expensive. It often helps to plan smartly: with durable materials, efficient use of space, and well-thought-out energy concepts. Sometimes less is actually more - also in terms of sustainability.

Those who rely on proven designs and avoid unnecessary complexity can achieve a high level of ecological and economic quality with the right adjustments and relatively simple means.

Thinking about cost-effectiveness throughout the entire life cycle

An important point when it comes to costs is to consider a building’s entire life cycle. A building that may cost a little more to construct but has low energy, maintenance, and operating costs over decades is often the more economical choice in the long term.

Sustainability is not only reflected in the carbon footprint during construction, but also in the long-term functionality and efficiency in everyday use, as well as the durability of the buildings.

“Green Steel”: climate-friendly progress with potential

In this context, “Green Steel” is also playing an increasingly important role – especially for us as steel construction specialists.

Steel with a significantly reduced carbon footprint, resulting from the use of green hydrogen instead of coke, is referred to as “Green Steel”. This new generation of steel is a huge step in the development of climate-friendly construction. Currently, green steel still involves additional costs, as production capacities are limited. But it shows the way forward and offers companies and public builders the opportunity to actively contribute to the decarbonization of the construction industry.

We closely monitor this development, maintain close contact with producers, and give our customers realistic advice: where does it already make sense to use it today, and where should the economic conditions be weighed honestly?

Assess sustainability realistically - and use it strategically

At CHRISTMANN + PFEIFER, we are certain that sustainable construction is not automatically expensive. It is more of a question of perspective and the right decision at the right time. To give our customers clarity, we do what we have been doing for a hundred years: we consult, build, and delight.

Whether in traditional steel construction, turnkey construction, modular construction, or parking garage construction: our aim is to take over responsibility - for our customers, for society, and for future generations.
