Dual Study Program in Civil Engineering
From Career Plans to Construction Projects: Studying While Gaining Real World Experience

Jannis is still at the beginning of his dual study program in Civil Engineering, but one thing is already certain to him: “Choosing this degree program was absolutely the right decision.” What he enjoys most is the combination of theory and hands-on practice. He also appreciates the learning environment at the ‚StudiumPlus‘ campus in Wetzlar: “We’re not sitting in a huge lecture hall - for me, it’s the ideal place to learn.”
How did he decide on this degree program?
For Jannis, it was a whole decision-making process. He has always been strong in math and physics, and technical topics simply fascinate him. That’s why he chose to attend a technical secondary school focused on construction engineering. Through the required internship, he experienced civil engineering and day‑to‑day work on a construction site for the first time - and quickly realized: this is a career with real future potential. Whether structural engineering, project management, or cost estimation - the options are diverse.
Dual study program or full‑time university?
After graduating from secondary school, choosing civil engineering was the logical next step. And it was clear to him early on that he wanted to pursue the dual study option. It offered exactly what he was looking for: practical experience, close alignment with real engineering work, and direct involvement within a company. And the icing on the cake: you earn money while studying.
Finding a partner company and securing a study placement
Next came the research phase: Which companies offer dual study programs in civil engineering? That’s how Jannis came across CHRISTMANN + PFEIFER. Application, interview, acceptance - and then the official start of the program last summer together with two other students. Because that’s another plus: an internal company community to exchange with.
His conclusion: “From day one, I felt welcomed and part of the team. I get to work on a wide range of topics, which helps me understand the broad spectrum of my future profession.”
From career planning to real construction projects: for Jannis, it worked out perfectly!
